Birth of the Fae by Danielle M. Orsino - Blog Tour - Day Five

Birth of the Fae: Locked Out of Heaven is the debut epic fantasy novel from Danielle M. Orsino and having just finished the last page of book one I am already chomping at the bit for book two! 

I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review - so thank you to BookstaInfluencers, Hilton Jenkins and Danielle for giving me the chance to be part of this magical world. 

When my copy arrived the packaging was gorgeous! Wrapped in white tissue paper with the book title printed on it in gold. A white feather tipped in gold, a healer bookmark and a dragon postcard! I mean I knew I was about to go on a magical adventure. And then I opened the paper and saw the cover! This is the kind of book you would find in the back of a mysterious bookshop that popped up in your town overnight and then disappeared again once you stepped back onto the pavement. It looks as if it is magically bound and woven with spells - the details are gorgeous: have a look, tell me I'm wrong?!

Now, as you know, I am a fan of all things fantastical and otherworldly and I adore stories that feature angels or that talk about the fall of Lucifer (even though I am not religious) and you get all of this from Birth of the Fae. But done in such a unique and refreshing way. Danielle has taken the concept and breathed new life into it, creating a vivid, colourful magical world. 

One of the things I adored about this book is just how descriptive Danielle gets. From Serena's hair to her tail, from Aurora's body to her soul. From the Dryads to the Dragons, from the Court of Light to the Court of Dark, everything is given time on the page to be explained and fleshed out so that you can clearly, vividly imagine it. It is also jam packed full of magical creatures from folklore and fairy-tale; Keratas, Selkies, Spelaions, Aubane and, of course , Dragons - which I just loved so much, even the Weepers need a special mention here *shudder*. This all appeals to my inner child and my inner bookish geek. 

Birth of the Fae does have a lot of world building in it - which I know some people find hard to digest - but because we know there is going to be a book two it is worth sticking it out, bearing with it and taking your time to read the book as it comes.  I think everything Danielle puts on paper in this story is relevant and if it doesn't make sense yet this is just because we haven't finished the whole story! 

Also this book has one of the best lines in it - a line that resonates and it so important and relevant in today's society as much as it is in fantasy books - I want to share it with you here: "Every gal should wear an invisible crown all the time." - this is a sentiment that every women should hold in her heart and I appreciate that Danielle included this. 

Birth of the Fae focuses on love, loss, betrayal, abandonment, death and rebirth. I loved watching the characters develop and grow, even the 'bad' ones, and found myself really invested in their stories. Overall I really enjoyed this book and I am excited to see where the story goes in the next. I think lovers of fairy-tales and mythology will like and appreciate this book.
