Into the Orange Grove by Grace Hasson - Interview with the Poet

Image
Morning BookWyrms,  Today I want to talk about poetry - which isn't something I have spoken about on here before. This is because I am a bit particular about the kind of poetry I enjoy and like. I'm a fan of dark, deep, almost painful poems that bear the soul. I like vivid imagery and heaps of open ended interpretation. Which is why I am writing about this collection. Into the Orange Grove is a collection of poems from Grace Hasson which I recently read and posted about on my Bookstagram account.  The collection, told in three parts, really moved me and I would like to thank Grace for gifting me a copy to read and share my thoughts on. Like I said in my stories and my post - this is a powerful, real and poignant collection that touched me in many ways. I think Grace has a huge talent for being open and honest and an almost lyrical way with words. The imagery is bold and boarders on grotesque a couple of times - which I adored because I am at heart a Gothic kind of gal. But it w

The Doors of Riverdell by Marianne Rosen

Image
Evening BookWyrms,  Being part of The Doors of Riverdell launch team has been a truly brilliant and fun experience. Thank you Marianne for letting me be part of this, especially during a year that has been so fraught with bad news and constant worry. A chance to read a debut novel and chat with amazing bookstagrammers has been uplifting and soul soothing, to say the least.  Like all my reviews this will be spoiler free and contain all the links needed to order your own copy of the book.  Lets jump right in with the cover reveal and blurb: You might have seen this post before on my bookstagram page, but I am rather proud of it and so wanted to use it here, to show off this soothing and inviting cover that hints at the main stage of this novel.  And here is the back of the book, with one of the best tag lines I've seen on a contemporary family focused novel: ***** Even the most beautiful home can't guarantee happiness. Isabelle Threlfall has always called Riverdell House, in the

Birth of the Fae by Danielle M. Orsino - Blog Tour - Day Five

Image
Morning BookWyrms,  Birth of the Fae: Locked Out of Heaven is the debut epic fantasy novel from Danielle M. Orsino and having just finished the last page of book one I am already chomping at the bit for book two!  I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review - so thank you to BookstaInfluencers, Hilton Jenkins and Danielle for giving me the chance to be part of this magical world.  When my copy arrived the packaging was gorgeous! Wrapped in white tissue paper with the book title printed on it in gold. A white feather tipped in gold, a healer bookmark and a dragon postcard! I mean I knew I was about to go on a magical adventure. And then I opened the paper and saw the cover! This is the kind of book you would find in the back of a mysterious bookshop that popped up in your town overnight and then disappeared again once you stepped back onto the pavement. It looks as if it is magically bound and woven with spells - the details are gorgeous: have a look, tell me I'm wrong?!

Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko - Bookstagram Tour - Day Ten

Image
Morning BookWyrms,  Another day and another review this time as part of Darkroom Tours bookstagram event. Raybearer was one of my most anticipated books of 2020 so I jumped at the chance to be part of this book tour.  I'd like to extend my thanks for Darkroom Tours, Hot Key Books YA and Jordan Ifueko for letting me part of this amazing journey.  Raybearer is Jordan Ifueko's debut novel and is the first instalment in what is sure to be an epic duology. Raybearer has left me excited for book two and excited to see what Jordan does next.  I want to jump straight in and tell you my thoughts but lets get the normal bits out of the way first.  Here is the cover in all it's glory. Can I just say that it took me a few days to notice the face! I love the colours and think that this cover is very striking and eye catching.  And here is the blurb: ***** Tarisai has always longed for the warmth of a family. She was raised in isolation by a mysterious, often absent mother known only as

The Minute I Saw You by Paige Toon - Bookstagram Tour - Day Three

Image
Morning BookWyrms,  I am back with another review and this time it's of Paige Toon's The Minute I Saw You and it's part of Kaleidoscopic Tours bookstagram event.  Although I often read and review fantasy novels I do enjoy books from all genres. So when I saw that Paige Toon's new book was up for a tour I knew I wanted to be part of it. I've never read anything by Paige before but have always heard such good things about her other work. I would like to take a moment to thank Kaleidoscopic Tours, Simon & Schuster and, of course, Paige herself for giving me a chance to read and review The Minute I Saw You.  The cover, as featured below, is vibrant, summery and eye catching. I don't know about you but if I saw this on the shelves I would be drawn to it without a doubt:   As always here is the blurb from the book: ***** When Hannah meets Sonny, she's irresistibly drawn to him: he's sexy and confident, but only in town on holiday. That's fine with Hann

The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson

Image
Morning BookWyrms, I was kindly gifted an e-copy of Alexis Henderson's debut The Year of the Witching by Lilly Cox, Marketing Executive at Transworld Publishing. As a fan of anything with witch-y vibes I was excited to read this book having seen so much hype about it within the bookish community - I needed to see for myself if it was as good as everyone said. Firstly can we talk about this cover art, there are two versions (both striking) but this was the cover on my copy. I appreciate that there are only a few elements on this cover, I like that the colour palette is simple and the design minimalist. I do think from the cover alone you can tell this is going to be an intense read. The smoking symbol with that tagline - really give you a feel for the tone of the book! Here is the blurb taken from the Waterstones website: ***** Born on the fringes of Bethel, Immanuelle does her best to obey the Church and follow Holy Protocol. For it was in Bethel that the first Prophet pursued and

The Short Knife by Elen Caldecott - Bookstagram Tour - Day Nine

Image
Morning BookWyrms,  I was lucky enough to be chosen to take part in the Darkroom Tours event for this book and I am thrilled because I finished this book within two days. I received an E-ARC of The Short Knife and want to share my honest review with you all. I found it to be so well written, with a plot that just keeps rolling and tumbling along, that it just pulled me in and suddenly I felt as if I were standing in the Dark Ages fighting to survive. I could not put this down. Truly.  The Short Knife is Historical Fiction and takes place in AD455 with flashbacks to AD454 - and if you know me then you know one of my stock phrases is "I'm not a huge lover of Historical Fiction." Which I’ve now decided is actually rubbish as every HF book I've picked up I've loved. Including this one.  Here is the blurb, from the Waterstone's website: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ It is the year 454AD. The Roman Empire has withdraw
